T.O.P’s First Solo Album in 20 Years, “Another Dimension,” Dominates Global Charts

T.O.P released his first solo studio album, “Another Dimension,” on April 3 following his departure from BIGBANG. As his first full-scale solo album in 20 years, it swept across worldwide music charts, once again proving the power of this global superstar.

On the first day of release, the album recorded approximately 1.47 million streams on Spotify. This figure represents the highest record among K-pop solo artists as of 2026 and is the first solo album to reach one million streams this year. Its performance on global charts was equally impressive. By the fourth day after release, it reached third place on the iTunes Worldwide Albums Chart and 16th place on the Apple Music Worldwide Chart. It topped the iTunes Albums Charts in 15 countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, and also secured first place in major music markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

“Another Dimension” consists of a total of 11 tracks, featuring “DESPERADO” and “Totally Crazy! (Studio54)” as dual title tracks. T.O.P stated that it is significant because the musical universe he personally led in producing reached global listeners.

In a recent interview with GQ Hong Kong, T.O.P said, “I stepped completely away from the public for almost 10 years and focused solely on making music. That period was truly constructive and productive.” He continued, “This time, I used a narrative approach I had never tried before and utilized complex audio structures, so that people can experience a wide range of emotions when listening.”

T.O.P defined this album as “a way to settle my past and move on to a completely new chapter,” emphasizing, “I no longer want to repeat the past. This album represents a new identity.”

T.O.P (real name Choi Seung-hyun) debuted in 2006 with BIGBANG under YG Entertainment. BIGBANG, composed of T.O.P, Taeyang, G-Dragon, Daesung, and Seungri, became one of the groupings that defined K-pop history. Seungri was expelled in 2019 due to the Burning Sun club scandal, and T.O.P left after BIGBANG released the single “Still Life” in 2022.

T.O.P explained his reason for leaving at a press conference promoting “Squid Game 2” last year. He said, “After completing my military service, I felt I had caused too much harm to BIGBANG and did not want to burden the group any further.” This statement appears to reflect on the impact he had on the group following investigations and charges related to marijuana use in 2017. He added, “As a solo artist, I can take full responsibility for my past mistakes, but that is not possible if I return to the group.”

The remaining members—Taeyang, G-Dragon, and Daesung—promoted T.O.P’s album through their personal accounts to show their support. Meanwhile, these three members are scheduled to perform at the Coachella festival in California, the United States, at the end of this month.
