Red Velvet Returns with Full Group After 2 Years and 2 Months

Red Velvet released its mini-album “Velvet Summer” on August 3, returning as a full group for the first time in 2 years and 2 months since “Cosmic” in June 2024. The Title Track, “Surfin’ Boy,” was written solely by Joy and is a bossa nova-style dance song featuring a refreshing sound combined with dreamy vocal harmonies. A total of 5 tracks are included in the album, including this song.

“Surfin’ Boy” emphasizes a mature atmosphere that evokes a sunset beach rather than the heat of midday. The lyrics written by Joy tell the story of recalling the hottest summers and creating new brilliant memories.

Irene said, “I’m grateful to our fans who waited for over 2 years,” adding, “It’s great to be together again; even the lively practice room feels wonderful.” Sl기 also mentioned, “Since we gathered after our solo activities, we’ve all grown significantly in our individual skills. We worked hard to ensure our unique maturity is well reflected in the album.” Wendy expressed excitement, saying, “I was extremely thrilled preparing an album as a full group after such a long time. I want to repay our fans with great music and performances that match the time they’ve waited.” Joy explained, “I turned into lyrics the feelings I wanted to express to Red Velvet and our fans. I wanted to convey my desire to create even more beautiful and amazing memories together now that we’re reunited.”

The fan concert held ahead of their comeback also concluded successfully. Red Velvet hosted a fan concert at Hwajeong Gymnasium in Seoul from July 31 to August 2, selling out all tickets. They made the first public performances of the new song “Surfin’ Boy” and the B-side track “Hula Hoop” there. On August 1, the day of their 12th debut anniversary, they celebrated with a birthday cake during the show, sharing a meaningful moment with their fans.

Yeri selected “Hula Hoop” as her favorite track, recommending it by saying, “It’s so refreshing that it instantly brings to mind summer, and it would be perfect to listen to while driving or traveling.” The mini-album “Velvet Summer” is released at 6 p.m. on August 3.
