President Lee Jae-myeong Invites 104 Children to Blue House for First Children’s Day Event

President Lee Jae-myeong held an event on May 5 to celebrate the 104th anniversary of Children’s Day by inviting 104 children to the Blue House. This was the first Children’s Day commemoration event held since the Blue House was opened to the public, with children from various backgrounds such as those from depopulating areas, multicultural families, children from disability welfare centers and child care facilities, and patients with rare diseases being invited.

The children toured the main building of the Blue House, the Sejong Room, and the Chungmu Room alongside President Lee Jae-myeong and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung, experiencing a National Security Council meeting indirectly. President Lee Jae-myeong told the children, “I invited you to the Blue House because I hope you can dream of a hopeful and bright future.”

When one of the children asked how he became president, President Lee Jae-myeong replied, “It is the people, who are the masters of the nation, who elect me,” explaining the meaning of democracy.

The green space in front of Sangchunjae in the Blue House was specially transformed into a “one-day playground.” The children enjoyed a variety of activities such as making cupcakes and learning handwashing techniques.

After the event, President Lee Jae-myeong shared on Facebook his commitment to respecting children as individuals with dignity and personality. He also expressed his determination to work hard to create a society where every day of the year feels like Children’s Day, 365 days a year.
