G-Dragon Removes Like from Post Supporting Kim Soo-hyun’s Reputation Restoration

Singer G-Dragon removed a “like” he had previously posted on a social media post containing an official statement in support of actor Kim Soo-hyun’s reputation, sparking controversy online.

On the 28th, screenshots showing G-Dragon liking a post featuring Gold Medalist’s official statement quickly spread across online communities. That post discussed how police investigations into allegations raised by YouTube channel “GaroSeroYanGusu” operator Kim Se-ui regarding an alleged relationship with a minor had confirmed that some evidence had been fabricated.

Kim Soo-hyun’s agency stated in its official statement, “Mr. Kim Soo-hyun promised at a press conference a year ago that he would definitely prove his innocence, and through thorough investigations, the truth has been established.” The agency added, “We are deeply grateful to the investigative authorities for uncovering the truth based on objective evidence.”

Online reactions to G-Dragon’s action were divided. Some netizens argued, “What’s wrong with supporting a friend?” and “Liking is an individual’s freedom.” Others criticized him, saying, “It was reckless to show public support before the trial results are even out,” and “Public endorsement should be handled with caution.”

Following the escalation of the controversy, G-Dragon removed his “like” from that post. Various interpretations have emerged regarding this action, including claims that he did so because of the ongoing backlash and suggestions that it might have been an accidental click.

The two men are peers born in 1988 and have recently shown their friendship. Kim Soo-hyun attended G-Dragon’s regular album “Wevermanish” listening party in February and appeared alongside him on MBC’s variety show “Good Day” in March. G-Dragon had previously expressed his affection by liking foreign media articles about Kim Soo-hyun’s appearances in variety shows.

G-Dragon is known for frequently leaving “likes” on social media posts. During his appearance on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” in October 2024, he said, “I usually like things a lot. My starting point was being a heartbreaker, but since then I’ve been spreading love.” He had also shown public support by liking a post where actor Cha Eunwoo explained himself regarding tax allegations.

Meanwhile, the Seoul Central District Court held a pre-arrest interrogation for Kim Se-ui, who is facing charges including defamation, on the 26th and issued an arrest warrant, citing concerns that he might destroy evidence or attempt to flee. Kim Se-ui is accused of fabricating KakaoTalk conversation records and altering voices using AI.
