UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s 48th Session: South Korea Pavilion Reaches 50,000 Visitors in Just 5 Days

The official exhibition hall of the host country for the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session, titled “South Korea Pavilion,” located at Busan’s BECKSCO, has seen over 50,000 visitors within five days of its opening. The cumulative total of visitors has reached 52,758.

As of the 24th, a total of 52,758 people had visited the South Korea Pavilion, which opened on the 20th. On the 24th alone, 15,485 visitors attended, accounting for nearly half of the total number of visitors who came in the previous four days.

Constructed on a scale equivalent to two football fields, the South Korea Pavilion features 45 booths operated by 35 different organizations. The exhibits are organized into four themed sections: “Heritage Through Advanced Technology,” “Living Intangible Heritage,” “Past, Present, and Future of Heritage,” and “Heritage for Everyone.”

The “K-Heritage Store,” which sells products related to national heritage, has surpassed a cumulative sales figure of 100 million won as of the 24th. According to statistics on visitor counts by exhibition area, the Visit Campaign Pavilion attracted 11,513 visitors, the Immersive Exhibition Pavilion drew 11,160 visitors, and the Joint Public Event Pavilion, where demonstrations and hands-on experiences by holders of national intangible heritage are held, saw 11,081 visitors (as of the 23rd).

The booth of the Justpeace Foundation attracts many visitors due to the display of handwritten signatures from singer G-Dragon, who serves as a UNESCO World Heritage Committee ambassador, along with those from Hyunjae, the director of the National Heritage Administration, and entertainers Mimi and Jonathan.

The South Korea Pavilion will remain open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the closing day of the World Heritage Committee session on the 29th. Guided tour programs led by professional narrators are held at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., while traditional performances and interactive programs for visitors take place at the “K-Heritage Stage.” The National Heritage Administration plans to work with relevant organizations to enhance visitor flow management and safety measures.
