Robot Idol Dance Performances a Success; Face Integration Planned Starting Next Year

Galaxy Corporation, the agency representing G-Dragon, is accelerating its efforts to develop robot idols. A successful dance performance by humanoid robots was recently held at Galaxy Robot Park, which opened in Gangdong District, Seoul, with plans to release robot idols equipped with human faces on a sequential basis beginning next year.

On the 15th, three Unitree G1 humanoid robots took the stage at the “K-Pop Robot Arena” at Galaxy Robot Park. The robots executed precise choreographies to G-Dragon’s “POWER” and “HOME SWEET HOME,” as well as Taemin’s “Advice” and “IDEA.” Dressed in stage outfits, the robots naturally replicated hand gestures, foot movements, and neck motions. It is reported that they practiced performances three times daily in advance to continuously learn choreography data.

Choi Yong-ho, CEO of Galaxy Corporation, stated, “We will start with three performances per day on weekends starting in June, and increase this to six or more performances per day from September onward.” He added, “We plan to hold at least 1,000 K-Pop robot performances annually.” He further mentioned, “We are aiming to launch a world tour by the end of the year, including visits to distant regions such as Africa, South America, and the Middle East.”

The robots were manufactured by Unitree Robotics, a robotics company based in Hangzhou. While current performances focus on artists under Galaxy Corporation, the company is also preparing shows using songs for which it has secured intellectual property rights from legacy artists.

Galaxy Corporation is diversifying its revenue streams. In addition to performance fees, it is exploring options such as portraits drawn by robots, experiences where visitors can control the robots directly, and robot boxing. The company, which joined the unicorn club last year, is currently valued at over 1 trillion won. Executives from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ visited the company in March.
