YouTube Shorts Star Allen Chicken Chow to Produce K-Pop Scripted Series on Netflix

Allen Chicken Chow, one of the top creators on YouTube Shorts, is developing a scripted series set in the K-Pop world through a partnership between Netflix and HYBE America.

The untitled series, revealed by Netflix, will be created in collaboration with HYBE America, the U.S. arm of music entertainment company HYBE. It follows a ragtag group of failed idol trainees who have been accepted into an art academy as they form a mixed-gender band.

Chow is the creator and star of the high school anthology series “Alan’s Universe,” which boasts approximately 130 million subscribers and over 1 billion views per month. In 2025, he was recognized as a Forbes Top Creator, featured by The New York Times, and included in TIME100 Creators.

This project was announced earlier this year as part of Chow’s new partnership with HYBE America, initially titled “AU.” At that time, Chow launched casting calls to recruit “multifaceted artists” to join a new mixed-gender pop music group, with these members set to appear together in a scripted series on his YouTube channel covering the band’s story. Now, the series has shifted from his YouTube channel to Netflix.

Original music will be released alongside the series. Netflix is pursuing this project following the massive success of “Kpop Demon Hunters,” and it is expected that original songs similar to hit tracks like “Golden” from that film will be released through the series.

HYBE, the parent company behind K-Pop groups such as BTS and Katseye, will bring its expertise in K-Pop to the project. Chow serves as one of the executive producers alongside James Shin, head of film and television at HYBE America, and Jingu Jang, head of HYBE America’s AU division and former vice president of Big Hit Music.

In a statement, Chow said, “Our groundbreaking project brings together outstanding creative talent from Netflix and HYBE America to launch a pioneering franchise for the next generation. Working with the world’s best team that continuously shapes culture on a global scale, our mission is to set a new standard for storytelling.”

Shin of HYBE America stated that the series will present a “cultural model that defines how pop groups are created.” He added, “Together with proven visionaries like Chow, who are at the forefront of the creator ecosystem, we are moving forward to create a groundbreaking series that expands audiences, possibilities, and the way fanbases are built from day one.”
