Woman Arrested on the Spot for Golf Club Attack at YG Headquarters

Around 9 p.m. on the 6th, a woman in her 20s attacked the front entrance of YG Entertainment’s new headquarters in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, by swinging a golf club and striking the door multiple times. On the 7th, the Mapo Police Station arrested her (identified as A) on suspicion of special property damage and is investigating her exact motive, the circumstances of the incident, and her mental state.

Videos that went viral online show A running toward the main entrance of YG’s new building with a golf club in her hand. Upon arriving at the building, she repeatedly hit the glass entrance door with the club. A man present at the scene tried to stop her, and police arrived after receiving a report, arresting her at the location. Some parts of the entrance door were damaged during the incident, but no one was injured.

A carried a golf club and rushed toward the building’s main entrance, hitting the door several times at the time of the crime. The police are currently investigating A’s exact motive and the details of the incident. They are also examining her mental state and any connection to YG to determine the full sequence of events. However, as of now, her motive or any link to YG’s artists has not been identified.

On the same day, YG suddenly announced via its fan platform Weverse a “Meet & Greet” event to celebrate BLACKPINK’s 10th anniversary. The event was scheduled to take place in Seoul on the 8th afternoon, with only 40 fans selected through a lottery initially allowed to attend. The initial announcement stated that “only some members who are available due to their schedules will attend,” which sparked backlash from fans. Eligibility was also restricted to fans who had joined Weverse membership by the 31st of last month, leading to controversy among fans who had been less active on Weverse recently. After criticism grew, YG confirmed on the 7th that all four BLACKPINK members—Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa—would attend the event.

Online, some netizens speculated that the golf club attack might be related to BLACKPINK’s 10th anniversary event due to the timing overlap. However, no official connection between the golf club attack and BLACKPINK’s event has been confirmed thus far.

This is not the first time there has been a disturbance caused by an outsider in front of YG headquarters. In June 2016, a woman in her 30s armed with a weapon broke into YG headquarters and caused havoc. At that time, one employee’s clothing was torn, but no one was injured.

The Mapo Police Station is still investigating A’s exact motive and the circumstances of the crime.
