TWS’ “Plot Twist” Claims Top Spot on 2024 Melon Year-End Chart; First Debut Song to Reach Peak in 14 Years

The debut song “Plot Twist” by boy band TWS ranked first on the 2024 Melon year-end chart. The six-member boy group under FLDG Entertainment became the first K-pop band in 14 years to have its debut track reach the top of a domestic streaming platform’s annual song chart. “Plot Twist” topped the 2024 annual streaming chart, with (G)I-DLE’s “Fate” (2024), aespa’s “Supernova” (2024), and IU’s “Love Wins All” (2024) following behind it. Previously, the only debut song to reach the top of the Melon year-end chart was Miss A’s “Bad Girl Good Girl” in 2010 for a girl group, and for boy groups, it was the first time in 6 years since iKON’s “Love Scenario” in 2018. TWS consists of six members: Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, Dohoon, E-Tion, and Kyungmin. Their two released songs last year, “Plot Twist” and “If I'm S, Can You Be My N?” (2024), gained massive popularity on short-form video platforms thanks to their catchy melodies and trendy lyrics. The group is scheduled to hold fan meetings in Seoul and Tokyo in February and March. Meanwhile, multiple artists stood out in South Korea’s music market in 2024. Rosé topped both the Global K-Pop Chart and the V Coloring Chart with “APT.” (2024), which remained at the top of the Global K-Pop Chart for 10 consecutive weeks after reaching the peak in week 43 of 2024. aespa led the digital chart and streaming chart with “Supernova” (2024), with a total of 8 songs including “Drama” (2023), “Armageddon” (2024), and “Whiplash” (2024) making it onto the annual digital chart. Boy band Seventeen claimed first and second places on the album chart with their 12th EP “Spill the Feels” (2024) and compilation album “17 Is Right Here” (2024), selling 3.18 million and 3.15 million copies respectively. Stray Kids reached first place on the physical album chart with their 9th EP “ATE” (859,437 copies sold) and finished third overall on the album chart with 2.88 million copies sold. IVE had six songs—“I AM” (21st), “HEYA” (26th), “LOVE DIVE” (60th), “Baddie,” “Kitsch,” and “After LIKE”—included in the 2024 Melon year-end chart TOP100. Among them, “LOVE DIVE” and “After LIKE,” despite being released in 2022, remained on the year-end chart for the third consecutive year, demonstrating their sustained popularity.
