TWICE’s 4 Members Engage in Exit Negotiations from JYP···Exploring BLACKPINK‑Style Model

As TWICE approaches its contract renewal after 12 years of activity, it is reported that four members—Jihyo, Tzuyu, Chaeyoung, and Jeongyeon—are considering leaving JYP Entertainment. Similar to BLACKPINK, the group is exploring a model in which the group itself remains intact while individual activities are pursued through separate companies.

TWICE renewed all of its contracts in July 2022, and approximately four years later, it has reached the period for its second contract renewal. Jeongyeon is in negotiations with Varo Entertainment, the company owned by her older sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon. Tzuyu, who holds Taiwanese citizenship, is considering a contract with a Taiwanese company founded by her mother. Chaeyoung and Jihyo are also exploring opportunities for individual activities outside of JYP Entertainment.

BLACKPINK serves as a prime example of this structure. At the end of 2023, BLACKPINK ended its individual contracts with YG Entertainment while keeping its group contract in place. Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo each established their own companies, while Rose signed with The Black Label. Since then, the members have expanded their individual activities in music, fashion, and acting while continuing as BLACKPINK. BLACKPINK conducted a world tour from July 2025 to January 2026.

Music critic Im Hee-yoon noted that applying the BLACKPINK model directly to TWICE might be difficult. “BLACKPINK and TWICE are fundamentally different,” he said. “BLACKPINK built strong individual identities from the start, and it consists of only four members. TWICE’s group identity is much more defined, and it has many more members.” He added, “Although individual members have built their own fan bases, these are not on par with those of BLACKPINK’s members.”

In fact, all of BLACKPINK’s members serve as ambassadors for global luxury fashion brands. Jennie is an ambassador for Chanel, Lisa for Louis Vuitton, Jisoo for Dior, and Rose for Saint Laurent. In contrast, although TWICE members such as Nayeon, Jihyo, and Tzuyu have released solo songs, their global individual influence does not compare to that of BLACKPINK’s members.
