Taeyong’s First Full Album “WYLD” Praised by Overseas Media as “This Year’s Best K-Pop Album”

NCT’s Taeyong’s first full album, “WYLD,” released on May 18, has received widespread acclaim from major overseas media outlets. Billboard in the United States stated, “Taeyong, recognized as a unique artist in the K-pop scene, is back,” adding that “WYLD” offers a glimpse into his original and personality-driven musical universe.

The British magazine Clash described it as “a fun and experimental album that showcases Taeyong’s diverse sides,” giving special attention to the title track “WYLD.” It noted that the track delivers explosive energy through its rough vocals and heavy bass, highlighting Taeyong’s charismatic performance style. Clash also acknowledged that Taeyong is regarded as a leading creator in K-pop thanks to his original musical vision, and that he influences K-pop trends while inspiring younger artists.

The American publication Sweet High named “WYLD” “this year’s best K-pop album.” It praised the work as a highly polished piece where experimentation, vocals, rap, confidence, and storytelling are seamlessly integrated, stating that Taeyong demonstrates a confident, experimental, yet sophisticated and creative approach throughout the album. The publication further emphasized Taeyong’s musical versatility by mentioning his ability to effortlessly transition between light and soft melodies, low and husky tones, and singing rap.

The album consists of 10 tracks, all of which were produced by Taeyong himself, covering various genres such as hip-hop, jazz, rock, electronic, hyperpop, and future bass. It marks Taeyong’s first full album since ending his military service in December last year, representing the result of two years of creative development as he overcame his service hiatus.

Upon release, the album topped domestic album and music streaming charts, as well as occupying positions 1 through 10 on Japan’s AWA real-time rising chart. It also reached number one on iTunes Top Albums charts in 10 regions worldwide and made it into the top 10 in 18 additional regions, while claiming number one on iTunes Top Songs charts in 9 regions, demonstrating strong support from global listeners.
