NEXZ Returns with “Mmchk” – Members Contribute Lyrics, Animal-Themed Concept

JYP Entertainment’s boy group NEXZ, composed of Tomoya, Yuki, Haru, Soo Gun, Seita, Hui, and Yuki, made their comeback on April 27 with their second single “Mmchk.” A showcase was held at 2 p.m. that day at the Bluesquare URI WON Banking Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, followed by the release of the new song on various online music platforms at 6 p.m. This marks their first comeback in approximately 6 months since their mini album “Beat-Boxer” in October.

“Mmchk” is a dance track based on bass house music, characterized by cheerful rap verses and an addictive beat. Members Tomoya, Hui, and Yuki participated in writing the lyrics for the title track. The album includes three tracks: the title track “Mmchk,” the B-side “HYPEMAN,” and “Mmchk (English Version)” intended for overseas fans. Yuki and Tomoya also wrote the lyrics for “HYPEMAN.”

The word “Mmchk” refers to a call that expresses confidence, meaning “This is us.” Member Soo Gun explained at the showcase that it is a phrase shouted during performances to highlight their charm, aiming to draw attention to their abundant appeal and energy. This concept is also reflected in the music video, which features the members shouting “Mmchk” to capture the interest of those around them.

This comeback holds multiple significances. NEXZ is the first boy group JYP has launched in approximately 6 years since Stray Kids. Member Seita said, “At the time of our Debut, we were filled with happiness. While following the path laid down by our seniors, all of us are working hard to showcase our unique identity as NEXZ.”

NEXZ has built their skills by contributing to lyrics for previous tracks such as “Next Zeneration” and “Next To Me.” For this album, all members participated in writing lyrics, demonstrating their potential as a next-generation self-produced group.

Member Yuki had a meaningful experience through collaboration with I.N. He filmed a “Mmchk” challenge video together with Stray Kids member I.N., during which he received warm advice and encouragement from his senior. Yuki said, “I.N. carefully checked in on me and sent me a message of support as I was preparing for my comeback. He praised the song and even called me by name, saying ‘Good luck, Yuki,’ which made me feel honored and happy.” He added, “I gained a lot of strength from that.”

Since their Debut in 2024, NEXZ has been active consistently. They announced their global Debut in May 2024 with “Ride the Vibe” and have since shown their creative abilities by contributing to lyrics for multiple tracks. This “Mmchk” comeback is the result of those efforts, featuring works that reflect the members’ confidence and skill.
