Netflix has partnered with Alan Chikin Chow, the most popular creator on YouTube Shorts, and HYBE AMERICA, the U.S. subsidiary of South Korean music and entertainment company HYBE, to promote the global spread of K-POP content.
The new drama series commissioned by Netflix is created and starred by Alan Chow, and it is set within a K-POP universe. The plot follows a group of failed idol aspirants who enroll in a music academy and form a mixed-band together. This project represents the transition of “HYBE America x AU,” a partnership first announced by Alan Chow earlier this year as part of his new collaboration with HYBE AMERICA, from his YouTube channel to Netflix.
Alan Chow is both the creator and actor behind his highly popular YouTube channel, “Alan’s Universe,” which boasts nearly 100 million subscribers and over 1 billion views per month. He was named a Forbes Top Creator in 2025, as well as a The New York Times and TIME100 Creator, demonstrating his versatile skills as a creator, actor, producer, showrunner, and director.
Alongside this series, original music created by emerging idols will also be released simultaneously. Netflix experienced great success with “K-POP Demon Hunters” last year, which evolved from a streaming platform hit into a musical juggernaut that produced hits like “Golden.” The Alan Chow series follows a similar approach by including music content.
HYBE AMERICA contributes its expertise in K-POP, proven through the development of global idol groups such as BTS and KATSEYE, to this project. The production team includes Alan Chow as executive producer, along with James Shin, HYBE AMERICA’s president for film and television, and Jingu Jang, former vice chairman of Big Hit Music and current president of HYBE AMERICA AU.
In a statement, Alan Chow described the project as an effort to “launch a groundbreaking new franchise for the next generation by combining Netflix and HYBE AMERICA’s extraordinary creative talent.” He added that their mission is to “set a new standard in storytelling by working with world-class teams that lead global culture, inspiring creativity, bringing joy, and delivering timeless life lessons to all audiences.”
James Shin said, “This series will present a culture-defining model of how pop groups are created.” He continued, “Together with a proven visionary like Alan, we are committed to producing a groundbreaking series that expands the boundaries of audiences, possibilities, and fandom from the very beginning.”
Initially, Alan Chow planned to work with three male and three female emerging artists who would participate in a development program in Los Angeles, combining Chow’s content expertise with HYBE’s K-POP training system.
