ITZY’s Yuna Makes Solo Debut with “Ice Cream” Shortly After “That’s a No No” Goes Viral

ITZY’s Maknae, Yuna, made her solo debut on the 23rd with her first mini-album, “Ice Cream,” released at 6 p.m. The timing was particularly strategic, as interest in her had surged immediately following the viral spread of a YouTube video featuring her group’s performance of the song “That’s a No No” from two years prior in February.

“Ice Cream” is a mini-album containing four tracks. In addition to the title track “Ice Cream,” it includes “B-Boy,” “Blue Maze,” and “Hyper Dream.” The title track belongs to the upbeat bubblegum pop genre, and in its music video, Yuna showcased a bright and playful concept by wearing a blonde wig and adopting poses reminiscent of ice cream.

ITZY performed “That’s a No No” during their “Tunnel Vision” world tour in February. This song was originally a B-side track from their second EP, “IT’z ME,” released in 2020. The performance video became one of the most popular tracks in YouTube Music, and the song rose on the Melon chart from 157th place on March 2nd to higher positions by March 16th.

Yuna is stepping onto solo stages seven years after her debut with ITZY in 2019. She becomes the second solo member in the group, following Yeji. At a press conference, Yuna said, “I’m grateful that ‘That’s a No No’ has gained popularity again,” adding, “I hope everyone will show love for both ‘That’s a No No’ and ‘Ice Cream.’” She also described the track as a song perfect for listening to in spring.

Park Jin-young, founder of JYP Entertainment and the company’s Creative Chief Officer (CCO), is said to have expressed his support during Yuna’s album preparation by saying, “I’m extremely excited. I hope she can bring it to a healthy conclusion.”
