BTS Members Reveal the Production Process Behind “ARIRANG”

To commemorate the release of BTS’s fifth studio album, “ARIRANG,” the members shared details about the album’s creation process and their thoughts on this Comeback through interviews with various media outlets. Their creative philosophies and roles within the three-year-and-nine-month-long project to produce this studio album were made public.

j-hope suggested that the Title Track of “ARIRANG” might be “SWIM.” He explained that the song embodies the attitude toward life and love that defines BTS today, as well as the sincerity that allows fans to look forward to what BTS will bring in the future. Describing the album title “ARIRANG” as a folk song, he noted it serves as a central element that can reflect the roots of all seven members. j-hope participated in the creation of multiple tracks including “Hooligan,” “2.0,” and “Aliens,” and expressed particular admiration for his work with producer El Guincho.

Jimin remained humble about the success of his solo activities, saying he never expected it. He revealed his unchanged drive to improve by stating that everyone wants to do well, and he is no exception. When asked why he performed well during his military service, Jimin humorously explained that at first he worked hard to make a good impression on those who knew he was an entertainer, but later he focused on getting time off. He contributed to the lyrics and music for tracks like “They Don’t Know bout us” and “Into the Sun” on this album.

Jung Kook expressed regret over certain aspects of the album’s production. Although he wrote lyrics and music for four songs—including “Alien,” “FYA,” “2.0,” and “Hooligan”—he said, “Two months is really a long time; I wonder if we couldn’t have done more.” Regarding his identity as a solo pop star, he said he doesn’t yet feel like one, but hopes to one day. He mentioned that he is working hard to improve his English so that he can be recognized as a true pop star.

V explained that during the process of returning as a full group, the members amplified each other’s self-esteem when checking in on their confidence levels. This indicates that after experiencing individual solo activities and developing their own musical styles, the members combined forces to create an even stronger synergy.

Regarding the resumption of full-group activities, j-hope said, “Now I truly feel grateful for the fact that these seven of us are together.” Reflecting on the Comeback stage held in Gwanghwamun Square, he recalled it as the first moment when the seven members became one again. Through the members’ interviews, the importance of more mature music creation and stronger teamwork, built on their individual experiences, was emphasized.
