aespa and G-Dragon’s Collaboration “WDA” Enters Top 10 on iTunes in 17 Countries

aespa released the preview track “WDA(Whole Different Animal)” from their second studio album at 6 p.m. on the 11th. G-Dragon of BIGBANG participated directly in the track as a featured artist and handled the rap writing for his own section, drawing significant attention.

“WDA” is a hip-hop-based dance song characterized by a powerful synth beat and a heavy hook that create an overwhelming impact. Its lyrics reflect aespa’s further growth and signal a new chapter in their narrative universe, while G-Dragon’s distinct rap tone adds intense synergy to the entire track.

The music video mirrors the current era where the boundaries between reality and digital space have blurred. Figures bearing the appearance of aespa actually represent other entities, sparking chaos. The video tells a story of aespa breaking through these conflicts to reaffirm their existence.

Since their debut, aespa has centered their narrative universe around the virtual identity “ae-aespa,” establishing a unique storyline where real and digital selves coexist. This music video captures the anxieties of modern society, where images are copied and consumed indiscriminately, and it poses a philosophical question: “What is real?” in an environment where the lines between the original and its copy, as well as reality and virtuality, have become blurred.

Immediately after its release, “WDA” entered the Top Songs charts on iTunes in 17 countries worldwide, including Thailand, Portugal, Vietnam, Singapore, Chile, Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Oman, Ukraine, Cambodia, and Peru. It also received the “Gold Album” certification on QQ Music, China’s largest music streaming platform, for sales exceeding 250,000 yuan (approximately 55 million won).

aespa’s second studio album, “LEMONADE,” will have all its tracks released at 1 p.m. on the 29th, alongside a physical release. Starting in August, aespa will embark on a new world tour, beginning in Seoul and visiting cities such as Taipei, São Paulo, and Mexico City.
