9-Time Grammy Winner Anderson .Paak Teams Up with K-Pop All-Stars for “K-Pops!” Album

The 9-time Grammy-winning musician Anderson .Paak is releasing the soundtrack album “(Music from and inspired by K-Pops! Motion Picture)” for the film “K-Pops!”. This is a collaborative project featuring numerous K-pop artists including G-Dragon, aespa, SEVENTEEN Joshua, and others.

The album includes contributions from K-pop all-stars such as aespa, NMIXX, SEVENTEEN Joshua, ATEEZ Hongjoong, JO1, G-Dragon, Jay Park, Cheongha, Dean, Crush, and Kevin Wu.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Anderson .Paak said, “At first, I just wanted to create a simple film soundtrack, but at some point I realized ‘this is not just a soundtrack — it’s my album.’” He also discussed the complexities of collaborating with K-pop artists, stating, “I didn’t realize how political K-pop can be. It was really difficult to bring everyone together for one project and get permission for contracts.” He added, “This wouldn’t have been possible without me and my producer Dem Jointz.”

Anderson .Paak has previously won Grammys as part of the R&B duo “Silk Sonic” alongside musician Bruno Mars. Regarding the roots of K-pop, he explained, “K-pop originated from black music, R&B, and hip-hop. K-pop is their own interpretation of those genres.”

Anderson .Paak’s mother was abandoned during the Korean War and adopted in the United States, growing up in Compton, Los Angeles. He also showed his affinity for Korean heritage and K-pop in a recent YouTube video featuring Sung Si-kyung and Jay Park.

The film “K-Pops!” is set to release on Netflix at the end of May, with the soundtrack album being released simultaneously. Anderson .Paak is currently traveling to South Korea to promote the project.
