TWICE Enters Contract Renewal Talks with JYP...Individual Activities for Each Member Under Consideration

Contract renewal negotiations between JYP Entertainment and the K-pop group TWICE are currently underway, with attention focused on plans for each member’s individual activities. JYP stated in an official statement, “TWICE is currently in the contract renewal negotiation period, and an official announcement will be provided once a final decision is made.”

Leader Jihyo delivered an emotional message to her fans through the fan communication platform Bubble on July 28. She openly admitted, “My heart is heavy, making it difficult for me to have casual conversations with fans as usual,” but promised, “I will do my best to resolve everything properly and share good news soon.” She also asked for fans’ trust and support, saying, “As the person in charge of my life, I will think carefully about everything and make the best choice.” Jihyo reassured her fans by emphasizing that she “truly loves and values TWICE.”

On July 29, JYP posted a job announcement for an experienced actor manager through its STRIDE (Division 3, the department responsible for TWICE) unit. Notably, a key responsibility of this position includes “managing the acting activities of all nine TWICE members.” This suggests that the individual activities of TWICE’s members are gradually expanding. As these individual activities increase, JYP appears to need to strengthen its staffing to manage them efficiently.

It has been reported that member Tzuyu may pursue individual activities. She is expected to carry out her solo projects through “Yu Hai Entertainment,” a company founded by her parents in November 2025. This company is registered at the same address as Tzuyu’s mother’s café and has registered entertainment-related businesses such as artist management, concert planning, music production and distribution, advertising, and talent scouting. Recently, Tzuyu attended the Kaohsiung Beer Rock Festival without any JYP managers accompanying her and performed under her real name, “Zhou Tzuyu.”

Some media outlets have reported that several members, including Jihyo, Jeongyeon, Tzuyu, and Chaeyoung, may be considering not renewing their contracts with JYP. Jihyo has been with JYP for approximately 21 years (including her time as a trainee), while Tzuyu has been there for over 11 years. Jihyo debuted as TWICE’s leader in 2015 after training at JYP for about 10 years.

The outcome of these negotiations is being viewed as a significant case study highlighting the trend of pursuing both individual and group activities within the K-pop industry.
