BIGBANG Announces 20th Anniversary Tour as First Stage Appearance in 9 Years

The group BIGBANG officially unveiled their 20th anniversary tour on stage at the “Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival” held in Indio, California. G-Dragon stated, “BIGBANG is celebrating its 20th anniversary. This is a ‘restart.’ BIGBANG will continue,” confirming that the world tour will begin in August.

This marks their first performance in approximately 9 years since “Last Dance” at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul in December 2017. It is also the first time BIGBANG has released new music in 4 years, following “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter” in 2022. On the Coachella stage, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung performed songs such as “Bang Bang Bang,” “Fantastic Baby,” “Manjeongsin,” “Nunmulppunin Babo,” “Loozer,” “Haru Haru,” and “Lie.” Taeyang and G-Dragon each delivered solo performances, while Daesung, dressed in a golden glittering outfit, created a unique atmosphere with a trot performance.

The synergy between the “performance powerhouse” YG Entertainment and K-pop legends BIGBANG is at the core of this project. YG has consistently raised the bar for K-pop concerts by deploying top-tier international staff who have previously worked with global pop artists such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Beyoncé on BIGBANG’s world tours. During the “Alive Tour” in 2012, they attracted 800,000 fans across 12 countries, and the “Made Tour” launched in 2015 drew over 1.5 million fans to 32 cities in 13 countries.

In Japan, BIGBANG became the first foreign artist to hold six dome tours and maintained dome tours for five consecutive years, establishing a strong presence in the local music market. By positioning themselves on par with Western pop stars, they secured a broader fan base, which directly contributed to the success of their large-scale tours.

Yang Hyun-suk, the chief producer at YG Entertainment, facilitated the reunion by having direct conversations with the BIGBANG members. He said, “We have agreed with the BIGBANG members to hold concerts,” adding, “Since we have worked together for so long, there should be no difficulties.” Previous reunions such as those of 2NE1 and support for BLACKPINK’s group activities were also initiated under his leadership.

This project, coinciding with BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary and YG Entertainment’s 30th anniversary, is expected to redefine the paradigm of K-pop concerts. The members returned to the stage in new outfits, declaring to their fans, “This is just the beginning,” showing strong determination for future activities. It remains to be seen whether BIGBANG and YG will create another milestone in the global music industry.
