BTS’s Netflix Documentary “The Return” to Debut on March 27

Netflix will release the documentary “BTS The Return” on March 27, documenting BTS’s return after a four-year hiatus. Directed by Bao Nguyen (known for *The Stringer* and *The Greatest Night in Pop*) and produced by This Machine and HYBE, the film captures the members’ studio work, preparations for international tours, and the psychological changes they experienced throughout this process.

BTS announced an indefinite hiatus in 2022 due to solo projects and their mandatory military service in South Korea. At that time, J-Hope emphasized the need for change by saying, “I think that change is what we need right now.” This documentary portrays BTS’s journey of reuniting after four years, resuming music production, and finding their place in a transformed music industry.

The trailer released on March 16 showed all seven members expressing both tension and excitement amid industry changes. RM stated, “Trends shift every season. Standing still isn’t an option,” adding, “And we’re trying to find out what makes us BTS,” while Jimin said, “We are finally back where we’re meant to be.” These remarks reflect the members’ determination to maintain the group’s core identity despite ongoing changes.

The documentary’s cameras follow the members from their studio sessions to boarding tour buses, as well as their activities between Seoul and Los Angeles. While preparing to reunite with fans worldwide, BTS also reexamines what defines them as BTS after four years away.

During their previous activities, BTS had six number-one songs on the Billboard Hot 100, became the first K-pop group to receive a Grammy nomination, and built one of the largest fanbases in the industry. After completing their *Permission to Dance on Stage* tour before the 2022 hiatus, the members fulfilled their respective military duties. Now that all members have reunited, they are preparing to meet with their fans again.
