aespa Releases Second Full-Length Album “Lemonade,” Infusing Bittersweet Energy

aespa will release their second full-length album “Lemonade” on June 1. The album marks a musical evolution by blending the group’s signature intense metallic sound with positive messages and upbeat energy.

The album title is inspired by a Western proverb that says, “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Despite the trend of easy-listening music that has dominated K-pop for years, aespa has maintained their distinct style by emphasizing powerful choruses and unconventional beats.

The title track “Lemonade” is an electronic dance track built on heavy and addictive synth-bass sounds. It conveys a message of mixing everything together even in dangerous and chaotic situations to face them with joy. Winter explained that fans gave the title track the nickname “bittersweet” after hearing it.

This album builds upon the dark fantasy world concept “Wasteland” that has been central to aespa’s music since their Debut. It deepens the group’s metallic sound while integrating their core narrative theme.

The album features a dual-title structure to showcase diversity. The pre-release track “WDA” and the title track “Lemonade” present contrasting styles. Giselle described it as follows: “While ‘WDA’ has a dark and overwhelming feel, ‘Lemonade’ is even more kitschy and playful.”

Ningning said she tried to add a playful tone during recording to preserve the texture of “Lemonade,” emphasizing particularly the section sung in Spanish.

The album, consisting of 11 tracks, offers a listening experience filled with genuine emotions and attitudes toward life, each expressed through different genres and moods. Karina stated that the new album holds great significance for the group and expressed her ambition to perform better than with their first full-length album. By leveraging six years of growth, aespa has distilled the essence of their unique music and style into this release.
